We’re rolling into the holiday season here at goodburger and we’re feeling great. Hope you guys are all enjoying the recently added combo meal options at goodburger as well as our rotating seasonal soups (they amp up any combo meal for sure). In this blog post we’re going to do a roundup of our Top 5 stories making their way around the burger universe and we’d love to hear what you guys think.
1. The city of San Francisco has banned Happy Meals, nothing happy about that. More accurately, they banned the sale of any unhealthy “Happy Meals” targeted to children through the inclusion of free toys. Funny thing though, just as quickly as the law was imposed, two of the biggest players in the game (McDonald’s & Burger King) found their way around it. In San Francisco, Happy Meals will no longer come with toys, but you can choose to include one…for an additional 10 cents.
What’s your opinion on this San Francisco “Happy Meal” craziness?
2.Burger King has changed their french fry recipe…any tried the new fries yet? Is there a difference? Better or worse?
3. Forbes Magazine named Smashburger as America’s “Most Promising Company”.
Has anyone tried Smashburger? We think it sounds an awful lot like Shake Shack and you all know how we feel about Shake Shack. Give us the 411 if you’ve tried Smashburger….
4. Apparently people are finally more interested in quality in their burgers. It’s even been suggested that the economic slump we’re in has been good for burgers. Says Brian Connors, a professor at Johnson & Whales University, “Customers know what quality is, they want meats like black angus and braised short rib in their burger, but they want it at a good price,” he said. “They want the Ritz Carlton experience but for the Ritz Cracker price.”

Let’s face it, burger’s are pretty amazing. On a good day, burger’s are just the thing to make it great. On a bad day, a great burger can really make things better (for a little while anyway). A great burger makes the grass a little greener, the sky a little bluer, and the sun shine a little brighter. You may think this all sounds like plain crazy talk but it’s true, or why else would people take all these every day things and make them look like our favorite American eat, a burger….

Last Friday night goodburger participated in the 2011 Blue Moon Burger Bash, hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, as part of the 2011 New York City Wine & Food Festival….and boy did we have fun. The event was held outside in the Tobacco Warehouse in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn and for the most part it was a beautiful night (with a few short spurts of rain). We kept things simple, our menu consisted of our Classic goodburger w/ the works and a seasonal coleslaw. We also made all of our patties on premises (something we’ll maybe plan to do before hand next time). What a turn out, there was such an incredible mix of burger lovers that came out to the burger bash and we enjoyed chatting with and feeding them until we could chat and feed no more. This coming Friday, September 30th, is the 2011 Blue Moon Burger Bash, and goodburger is a participant. The Blue Moon Burger Bash is part of the New York Wine & Food Festival, which will take place from September 29th- October 3rd. This years Burger Bash, being held at the Tobacco Warehouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park, is presented by Pat LaFreida Meats and hosted by Whoopi Goldberg.
The Burger Bash is the Wine & Food festivals most popular event, and we are so honored to have been invited to participate. We’ll be competing with 19 other restaurants for the People’s Choice Award. Each restaurant must create their best burger and side dish for the competition and we have a yummy menu in-store for everyone.
On top of all of the amazing burgers, Duff Goldman from the show Ace of Cakes will be hosting a milkshake and pie bar for an extra indulgence and guests will be able to wash down all the tastiness with plenty of wine and Blue Moon beer.
To end the night, The Delta Air Lines Burger Buses will whisk revelers back to Manhattan on luxury Burger Buses, giving guests the opportunity to keep the party going on board while experiencing Delta’s signature hospitality. All you have to do is grab a boarding pass at The Burger Bash from a Delta flight attendant, present it at the “boarding gate”, and prepare for departure to Manhattan.
goodbuger will be participating in Share Our Strength’s “Dine Out for No Kid Hungry” campaign from September 18th-September 24th. We’ve got some exciting developments & promotions in store for all you goodburger fans this Fall but before we get into those things, I want to tell you about Share our Strength and how we’re getting involved with their No Kid Hungry campaign. Share Our Strength runs the year round No Kid Hungry campaign to end childhood hunger in America by the year 2015. Each September they invite restaurants across the country to get involved through “Dine Out” for No Kid Hungry and this year we’re taking part. From September 18th-24th, you’ll be helping end childhood hunger in America each time you eat at any of our goodburger locations.
Did you know that more than 17 million American children struggle with hunger? Share Our Strength connects these kids to the food they need for the long term. With the funds raised through this campaign, Share Our Strength invests in its growing number of state and city-based partnerships and in nonprofit organizations across the country. The investments are focused on helping end childhood hunger in the following ways:
Helping to feed more kids during the summer when school lunches are not available.
Helping more kids start the school day off right by connecting them to school breakfast.
Helping afterschool programs provide nutritious meals and snacks.
Helping families get the food they need at home, by improving access to SNAP (food stamps) and WIC.
Teaching families how to prepare affordable, healthy meals, and bringing fresh and healthy food options to high-risk communities.

Can you believe we’re half way through August already? Summer is nearly over and before you know it school will be starting back up and summer Friday’s will be ending, a clear sign that Fall has arrived. We hope everyone is taking full advantage of the remaining days of summer whether it be escaping the city for a day to go to the beach or simply lounging away in Central Park.
